This was a really good workout. I took the first rounds easy because I wasn't sure how everything was going to feel. I sped things up in the later rounds because I felt really good.
First 5 rounds: 11:17
At 10 rounds: 22:21
At 15 rounds: 32:11
At 20 rounds: 41:55
21 - 43:41
I started with a round sandbag and quickly realized that that would blow up my back no matter how I carried it so I got a long sandbag that I could wrap around my neck (plus it was exactly 60#) and that worked perfectly. I am still having some hip issues so I used a band around my knees for all of the barbell work even though I just need that for the front squats. It worked great!

Background: This workout is dedicated to K9 Kitt who paid the ultimate sacrifice on June 4, 2021.
In June 2021, Officer Cushing and K9 Kitt, in their 10th year together, entered a wood line in Braintree searching for an armed suspect with 2 back-up officers. After countless successful tracks and searches leading to the discovery and apprehension of suspects, this track would be Bill and Kitt’s last together.
Upon locating the suspect, K9 Kitt advanced into a hail of gunfire from the man. Of the 9 bullets fired at the officers, K9 Kitt was struck by 3 bullets, Officer Cushing was struck by 5 bullets and back-up Officer Donoghue was struck with 1 round. K9 Kitt absorbed the first 3 rounds fired as he advanced on the gunman, creating time and distraction which allowed Officer Cushing, Officer Donoghue and Officer Seibert to return fire and fatally eliminate the ongoing threat.
“I lost my partner and closest friend in that Braintree wood line that day, but I’ve been able to recover and move forward because of Kitt’s fearless bravery and sacrifice.” – Officer Cushing
In the wake of K9 Kitt’s loss and as a memorial to his service, his partner, Officer William Cushing, has established the K9 Kitt Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3. The K9 Kitt Foundation’s purpose is focused on providing relief for violently injured K9 Teams around the country, raising awareness, continuing the education and training of handlers, while ensuring K9 Teams are appropriately equipped.
The workout was designed by James Hobart @jameshobart as a part of a fundraiser for the K9 Kitt Foundation. It was performed for the first time on October 2, 2022 at Cynergy CrossFit @cynergycrossfit (Hanson, MA, USA), where the K9 supervisor is a coach.
The rep scheme signifies:
– 21 rounds for the year of the incident
– 6 Deadlifts for the month of K9 Kitt’s passing
– 5 Hang Power Cleans for the number of bullets that struck Officer William “Billy” Cushing
– 4 Front Squats for the 4th of June
– 3 Shoulder-to-Overheads for the number of bullets that struck K9 Kitt
– 200 foot for the distance that Kitt was carried
– 80 lb for how much Kitt weighed.
