Background: The “Wallin” Hero WOD was designed by CrossFit Fargo @crossfitfargo / EHP Performance (Fargo, ND, USA) to honor Fargo Police Officer Jake Ryan Wallin. Officer Wallin, 23 years old from Saint Michael, MN, died in the line of duty on July 14, 2023.
He had a distinguished record of service, including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq as a member of the Minnesota National Guard, and had recently joined the Fargo Police Department in April 2023.
Officer Wallin had just started his CrossFit journey in the spring of 2023, embracing the rigorous training as a way to maintain fitness and connect with a community.
In his own words, “I just finished up with a police academy where they did CrossFit type training and it was something I was not used to and tested me in new ways. I’m looking to hold steady with that type of training and look for an opportunity to hold myself accountable, meet new people and train towards some sort of goals.”
The WOD’s design incorporates 3 rounds reflecting Beat 3, his patrol area, and the 1050-meter run, which represents the police dispatch call sign “10-50”, commonly used for an auto accident.
