Background: This memorial workout is dedicated to Dr. Alex Paley who succumbed to brain cancer on October 27th, 2019.

We first found his workout posted by Owner and Head Coach Shannon McDaniel @coachshannonibcf of Iron Bridge CrossFit (Charleston, South Carolina, USA). After contacting Shannon, she put us in touch with Katie McInvale, who was a close friend of Alex’.

In an email with WODwell, Katie told us the Coach Gillian McBurney Werner of Crofton CrossFit @croftoncrossfit (Gambrills, MD, USA) designed the workout because Alex’s sister, Leah, was a member there.

Katie writes: “They programmed the WOD for Alex on July 17, which is Glioblastoma Awareness Day (Glioblastomas are the most common and deadly form of brain tumors). The WOD was done [in Summer 2019] to raise funds and awareness for Glioblastoma research and support for Alex and his family.”

She also noted that Alex loved all things endurance, which is what inspired the movements in the workout.
