This was an interesting but perfect workout for today as I have had some weird groin pain and I wanted mostly upper body. I just moved through. I was surprised at how all the moves until the goblet squats interfered with one another. 35# shoulder presses never felt so heavy!
My first round was 14:32 - run was on the treadmill
I finished the second round at 28:28 - run was outside... 30 degrees, which was cold but I realized I kind of liked it! Finished in 43:43 - last run outside again. Grateful to honor this man - especially on a day when I wasn't mentally feeling great. I DID perform this workout in silence...

Background: The “Tips” WOD is a memorial dedicated to SGT Tory Tipler, a member of the Australian Defence Force, who sadly took his own
life on June 18, 2023. Designed by Damien Draeger and Troy Rosman, this workout commemorates Tory’s life, his service in the military, and his unique character.
SGT Tory Tipler embarked on his military career in 2006, serving 17 years with both the Royal Australian Regiment and the Royal Australian Air Force. His service included three major deployments and involvement in six distinguished units, exemplifying his bravery and dedication. Tory was known for his robust will, honesty, and logical reasoning, attributes that earned him great respect among his peers.
The WOD’s structure symbolizes various aspects of Tory’s life:
– 3 Rounds: For his three major deployments.
– 16 Bicep Curls and 17 Skull Crushers: Representing his date of birth (16 May 1987) and years of service.
– 21 Push-ups: A nod to Tory’s love for a KFC “bucket for one” after workouts.
– 6 Turkish Get-Ups: Reflecting the number of units he served in.
– 9 Shoulder Press: Symbolizing the number of medals he earned.
– 23 Goblet Squats: Representing the year he passed and a resemblance of his favorite dance move.
– 800m Run: Mirroring his early career excellence in the 2.4km run.
“Tips” is a tribute to a man who left a lasting impact on those around him. It’s performed in silence, acknowledging Tory’s struggles and resonating with those who suffer in silence. Through this WOD, Tory’s spirit and the memories he left behind are honored, reminding the community of the importance of mental health support.
